Zoë Daly: “We Have To Fight For What We Are Passionate About”

Let’s start off with a general introduction. How would you describe yourself, what are you all about and how did you get involved in health and fitness?

I’m a passionate, kind-hearted person who loves people and life. I was naturally drawn to the health & fitness industry given these traits and of course my athletic background.

Zoë, I know you’re incredibly passionate about living a clean and healthy lifestyle, where does this passion come from?

It certainly comes from the way I was raised, but also from bad experiences when I was in my late teens/early 20’s: not looking after myself, partying too much etc, and also suffering depression. I found training to be my therapy and good nutrition to be my ‘medicine’. I have never looked back!

And at one point you decided to turn this passion into a career as a fitness model and personal trainer, did you always envision having a career in the fitness industry?

No, it was really just a hobby, I used to study interior design and at one stage considered a law degree. I more or less ‘fell’ into the fitness industry as my ‘hobby’ became my true passion.

The first time you decided to compete you didn’t have a coach or anyone showing you the ropes – it was all you, and you placed third in your first competition, what did it take to pull through?

I was told on Day 1 that I had amazing symmetry and the ‘X Factor’ so I guess that played a role. I am a naturally shy person so I had no expectations, and to be honest, I had no idea what I was doing! But I had devoted many years to my training and clean eating, so for me, that is what really paid off. I was what they were looking for as a package, despite my lack of confidence.

As an online coach, what has been the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in working with your clients?

That our own thoughts can be our worst enemies, it is 100% a mental battle. Once we master our minds it will reflect on the outside.

In one of your interviews, you said: “Positivity is like a boomerang, send it out and it will surely come back to you.” – I love that! Can you explain what this quote means to you personally?

It’s my own quote, it means that what you put out comes back to you: spread love & light and you will feel that energy come right back 🙂

What has been your biggest challenge this far when it comes to your fitness career?

Overcoming a lumbar disc bulge 11 weeks prior to the World Titles in 2013. I was told by multiple specialists to “forget that competition” – this could’ve broken me – but I was so determined and I never gave up. I went on to place 2nd out of 80 phenomenal women from around the world on stage in Vegas, and earned my Pro status. The first Australian to do this with the WBFF.

How do you yourself stay motivated when things don’t go your way?

This year has been a constant struggle for me, with so many stressors and hurdles thrown my way. There have been many times I have wanted to throw in the towel, start in a new career that does not involve my body. But I have fought hard, overcome a myriad of injuries, completely rewired my neural pathways to fix a very dysfunctional body, amongst so many other factors both professional and personal.

This is all due to the fact that, at the end of the day, this is my PASSION – and we have to fight for what we are passionate about, and not give in if things become challenging. That’s life! There will always be challenges, and if we just walk away every time there’s a hurdle, then there’s no sense of achievement or belonging.

Are you a big believer in goal setting? And how do you set goals for yourself?

Absolutely, goals are what drive us, goals give us something to work towards and it’s so rewarding when we kick them! I always write my goals down, whether they are short term (month-to-month), 1 year, 5 year goals… writing them down sets the wheels in motion so we can energetically bring them about. I truly believe in the power of manifestation.

What are some of your plans for 2017?

Start my degree. I have a clear goal that my brand new, affordable 12 week online program: Zoë Daly Pro-Fit, will be BOOMING and changing the lives of thousands of women (and men) across the globe.

I want to have online clients in more than 50 countries (currently in 47) and I want to have purchased my first home. My goals are clear and I have written these down already 🙂
